Medication

GET https://api.flexpa.com/fhir/Medication

  • Medication is a base FHIR Resource ( JSON example).
  • It is mainly queried in the context of a MedicationRequest
  • Commonly available via US Core Medication Profile

Medication is a supporting FHIR resource that is used to represent a medication that is prescribed or dispensed. It represents the medication itself, not the prescription or dispensing of the medication to a specific patient.

In contrast to many of the other resources in the Flexpa that are patient-specific, it serves as a foundational resource that supports the clinical and financial resources in the API. For instance, a MedicationRequest may include a reference to the Medication that was prescribed or an ExplanationOfBenefit may include Medication references for any billed Medications.

As a result, Medication is most often used as part of an include parameter in a search request to retrieve the related resources or is accessed via a read with a specific FHIR resource ID obtained from a financial or clinical resource.
